California Tree Fruit Holds Fall 2008 Joint Business Meetings

REEDLEY, Calif. – November 20, 2008: The full boards and committees of the California Tree Fruit Agreement (CTFA) will meet on Tuesday, November 25 at the Kearney Agricultural Research and Extension Center in Parlier to discuss and take action on important items for the 2009 year. The joint meeting will begin at 1:00 p.m., followed by individual meetings of the California Plum Marketing Board, California Tree Fruit Marketing Board, Peach Commodity Committee and the Nectarine Administrative Committee.

The half-day agenda consists of a number of important items including 2009 program recommendations, along with regulatory and compliance action items. President Sheri Mierau will begin the meeting of the joint committees and boards with an update on 2008 programs, industry issues, as well as provide an update on legal and government matters.

Immediately following the President’s report updates and 2009 recommendations for the Domestic Market Development programs, and International Market Development programs will be presented by the respective subcommittee chairmen, Justin Parnagian and Jim Stewart.

Michael Reimer, Chairman of the Research Subcommittee will present an update of 2008 research projects, along with a recommendation to approve an emergency research project regarding a new thinning approach. Tree Fruit Quality Chairman Gordon Wiebe will review 2009 regulatory additions and deletions for all three commodities and recommend a 2009 compliance plan for the federal peach and nectarine programs.
