The California Tree Fruit Agreement will hold its annual Fall Business meetings November 27, 2007 at the Kearney Research and Extension Center in Parlier. The meetings will begin at 1:00 p.m. with a joint meeting of the California Plum Marketing Board, the California Tree Fruit Marketing Board, the Peach Commodity Committee and the Nectarine Administrative Committee. During the opening joint session a number of important issues will be discussed and background information will be provided. Immediately following, individual committees will meet to take action on a number of important items.
Several regulatory and policy topics are on the agenda for discussion during the November 27 meeting including revisions to the current expense allocation procedures among the tree fruit committees. In addition, regulatory measures such as elimination of the 50 and 60 sizes for plums, reporting for both 25 and 28 pound units on plum packout reports and the suspension of minimum sizes for peaches and nectarines under the federal marketing order programs will also be discussed and voted on by affected committees.
Initial plans for the 2008 domestic marketing programs will also be reviewed and approved by the committees as Harold McClarty, chairman of the Domestic Market Development Committee joins CTFA staff members in providing a report on program recommendations for the 2008 season.
Reports and updates will also be provided by International Market Development Subcommittee Chairman Jim Stewart and Research Subcommittee Chairman Mike Reimer. In addition, CTFA President Sheri Mierau will provide a report on recent strategic planning activities designed to address industry challenges experienced during the 2007 season.
The meetings are expected to conclude by 5:00 p.m. All interested parties are encouraged to attend. For more information, please contact the California Tree Fruit Agreement office in Reedley at (559) 638-8260.
